Glencoe | A Year in Pictures
Winter – January to March
We have set ourselves the target of adding 5 new photos to the gallery each week during the course of 2014.
Rather than being award winning masterpieces, the idea is that we seek to reflect a year of life living and working in Glencoe. Each photo has to have been taken within the week, and we’ll try to ensure that with each one there is a bit of a story to tell.
Please do give us your feedback, and if you find yourself in the glen during 2014, please do send us your photo for inclusion, and don’t forget to tell the story behind your photo too.
See our other photo galleries using the links in the box on the right.
- At Kingshouse the deer are fairly tame, but here, just a few metres from the Clachaig car park, the deer are still very wary of uninvited attention. Probably just as well as otherwise they'll end up in a pie. Wk 13 ends 4/4/13
- Meeting new friends whilst out and about enjoying spring in the Highlands. Wk 13 ends 4/4/14
- Loes thought these chickens had got it right. Warming themselves and topping up the vitamin D in some much needed sun. Wk 13 ends 4/4/13.
- Glencoe Mountain Rescue were called to help a walker who unfortunately broke his ankle on the walk out from Sgur na h ulaidh. Wk 13 ends 4/4/13
- Some mild sunny weather and the perfect day for some biking in Glen Creran. Just over the hill from Clachaig as the crow flies. Passing Fasnacloich from Glenure. Wk 13 ends 4/4/14
- That's what you call a room with a view. All we need now is some glass to put in the big hole. A better week of weather than last for some running repairs to several windows. Wk 12 ends 28/3/14.
- The light at this time of year can be superb, as this pic of sunset at Castle Stalker on Thursday evening proves. Wk 12 ends 28/3/14.
- Mmmm... nom, nom. nom. Actually taken a couple of weeks ago, but only rec'd this week. Our updated food photos are now slowly being added to the web sites. Wk 12 ends 28/3/14.
- Last weekend's poor weather brought fresh snow, and when the skies cleared this week, the views were superb in all directions. Wk 12 ends 28/3/14.
- After our homemade trail in the woods the route breaks out onto the hillside above the quarry. Biking with a view and a camera phone in the pocket to capture it. Wk 12 ends 28/3/14
- Found some funky settings on the camera so thought we'd try some of them out. Quite like this one of the Boots Bar from the Snug. Wk 11 ends 21/3/14
- Water, from the sky, from leaky pipes and from mysterious sources, has generally drive us mad this week. Please, some dry weather soon and an eye to our plumbing woes! Wk 11 ends 21/3/14.
- Glencoe is also known as the Glen of Weeping. Can't imagine why. It's been a little damp this week. Again. Wk 11 ends 21/3/14.
- We're not saying that it's been a bad week for photos, but it has been a little dreich. Might not have been taken this week, but it was discovered deep in an old archive this week, in an old file format. Wk 11 ends 21/3/14.
- Making the use of a feeder hung in a quiet spot, we managed to catch this blue tit enjoying a spot of lunch. Wk 11 ends 21/3/14.

- As seen from Clachaig, though admittedly a long lens might be useful. The photo captures the top section of Dinner Time Buttress. Wk 10 ends 14/3/14.
- Rowan Tree Lodge is one of our most popular self catering lodges at Clachaig. Maybe it's the view that makes it popular! Wk 10 ends 14/3/14

- There you are, camera in hand, and along comes Rescue 177 to honour you with a fly past. A spell of good weather, and look like they're exploring the glen. Wk 9 ends 7/3/14.
- The business end of things. Customers just get to see the good stuff once it's in a glass, but there's a huge amount of work to be done before that can happen! Wk 9 ends 7/3/14.
- Food is now the single most important part of the business, yet we're not very well represented when it comes to showing it. Today that changes as we re-stock the photo library. Wk 9 ends 7/3/14.
- Our local marketing association, Discover Glencoe has over 100 tourism members based in South Lochaber. Great to see so many of them coming together for the AGM this week. Wk 9 ends 7/3/14

- A new pub in Glencoe? Or filming for a new pilot episode of a mountain rescue team based comedy by BBC Scotland. Wk 8 ends 28/2/14.
- More late nights out watching the skies. Nice results again, but still no Glencoe aurora! Wk 8 ends 28/2/14.
- With fresh snowfall nearly every day since opening, it's pretty much ski where you want at the west coast ski resorts. Another cracking day. Wk 8 ends 28/2/14.
- And finally for this week, the real reason why we were late adding the photos. Seems our picture editor has defected to the Alps www.stayinchamonix.com. Wk 8 ends 28/2/14.
- When the weather does finally come good, it's just a pleasure to be out and about - day or night! Incredible peaceful on the shores of Loch Leven. Wk 7 ends 21/2/14.
- Mammut have sponsored the Winter Safety Lectures and are on hand each Tuesday to demonstrate their airbag ruck sack. Wk 7 ends 21/2/14

- The perfect storm - a weekend and good weather! Sunday saw the busiest day at Nevis Range for more than a decade. Not that you'd notice! Wk 7 ends 21/2/14.
- School children from St Brides and Glencoe primary schools attended the 13th February memorial gathering in Glencoe. Wk 7 ends 21/2/14.

- The MacDonald Monument erected in memory of the MacDonalds of Glencoe who died in the massacre on 13th February 1692. Wk 6 ends 14/2/14.

- Maintenance guru Keith is never happier than when faced with a challenge, this particular plumbing problem has certainly been a challenge this week. Wk 5 ending 7/2/14.
- Flood prevention is a hot topic across the country this week. We too are taking our own measures to avert a flooding risk with our regular maintenance of the gabions. Wk 5 ending 7/2/14

- Even when the weather's not so good there's plenty to look at. The light as the showers passed is amazing. A mile further down the road it was sunny with a big rainbow. Wk 3 ending 24/1/14.
- Cuil Bay is a wonderful place to go for a wander. Busy on a sunny summer's day, but quiet during the winter, and good for watching the wildlife by the shore. Wk 3 ending 24/1/14
- Morag took this atmospheric shot walking on Sgorr na h ulaidh, looking to Loch Leven in the distance. Love Glen Coe and I'm up there most weekends walking."

- The sunlight on the ridge this morning (14/1) was excellent but hard to capture on camera given the extreme contrasts of light and dark. Not a bad commute! Week 2 ending 17/1/14
