Glencoe | A Year In Pictures
Summer – August & September
Welcome to the 3rd of our picture galleries for 2014 and our project to bring you 5 photos each week featuring life in Glencoe and the local area.
We begin with an apology. July was gorgeous. Some lively hot, sunny weather. And we were so busy out making the most of it that we didn’t get around to updating the gallery. You’d hate us for all our lovely pictures of sunshine in the Highlands anyway. And when we weren’t out playing,… Well, it’s been rather hectic as we cope with summer at Clachaig.
Hopefully we can still find a few pictures of summer for the gallery. It’s not over quite yet.
- After weeks of very low water levels, Thursday night brought a reminder of what the autumn can bring. It was a bit windy too! Wk 39 ends 3/10/14.
- When you've got literally hundreds of font badges how do you store them without damaging, so that they can be available for re-use at at short notice? Welcome to our 'Poles of Plenty'. Wk 39 ends 3/10/14
- It's not Glencoe. It's not even Scotland. But it is sheer madness. Here's one of the boss half way up Ingleborough in the Yorkshire 3 peaks cyclocross event. Maybe we'll see more of him in the office now! Wk 39 ends 3/10/14
- In the last year or so these beers have dominated the line up of Scottish Craft brewing at Clachaig. And they taste mighty fine too. Cairngorm Lager and Black Gold. Wk 39 ends 3/10/14.
- Okay, so we didn't take this one this week. Yes, we're a picture short, so we're filling in a bit. But quite interesting isn't it. There's an extra wing that isn't even there any more. Wk 39 ends 3/10/14
- No gallery would be complete without the obligatory view of the Buachaille with the river Coupall in the foreground. And nice to see the return of blue skies. Wk 38 ends 26/9/14.
- The classic view of the Three Sisters of Glencoe in classic Glencoe weather. Fortunately, for only one day this week (month so far!) Wk 38 ends 26/9/14.
- We're quick off the mark with the sunny photos, so it seems only fair that we should try and include a few from the rare days when the sun isn't shining. Wk 38 ends 26/9/14.
- Moody skies as the A82 rises up out of Glencoe, past Buachaille Etive Mor and on towards Rannoch Moor. Wk 38 ends 26/9/14.
- Spend a day at Glasgow's Braehead and you'll know why we like this photo of our local shop so much. How can people live in these concrete jungles?! If I have to shop, at least give me a view! Wk 38 ends 26/9/14.
- The Orbital Footpath, linking Clachaig and the glen to the village, is already well used. New signage should ensure that it stays that way. Here's hoping the missing link will follow soon. Wk 37 ends 19/9/14
- 20 years on, and despite the huge number of beers now available from across Scotland Fraoch Heather Ale remains our most popular. Tastes good, looks good. Wk 37 ends 19/9/14.
- A calm, mild evening, a small fire on the beach, a drink in hand, and some crepuscular rays over Ardgour. Nice! Wk 37 ends 19/9/14.
- The new Clachaig helipad is looking busy today as 6 helicopters popped in for a pint on their tour of Scotland. Wk 37 ends 19/9/14
- The end of our 3rd full week of warm, dry and quite often sunny weather. Simply stunning September! Week 37 ends 19/9/14.
- A gorgeous week in the glen with high temperatures and lots of sunshine. Wk 36 ends 12th Sept 2014
- This lot look like they could eat and drink a little, especially if they'd just been along the Aonach Eagach with full packs. Table for 70? Certainly, sir! Wk 36 ends 12th Sept 2014.
- An opportunity for an evening walk up to Meall Mor mast and our most 'liked' photo on Facebook for quite some time. Wk 36 ends 12th Sept 2014.
- It beats watching the TV of an evening - more cyclocross training. Heading to Loch Creran from above Glen Duror. Deer, eagles, sunsets, moon shine and 30 miles of Scotland's finest. Wk 36 ends 12th Sept.
- Meanwhile, in New York... the weather doesn't look quite so good. But at least glad to see that Drew Coyle is competing with the rest of the advertising messages to spread the good word. Wk 36 ends 12th Sept.
- In how many Highland hotels will you find Sir Edwin Landseer's print, 'Monarch of the Glen'? Not Clachaig. We're rather proud to present our slightly irreverent version 'Monocle of the Glen'. Wk 35 ends 5th Sept.
- Some lovely late summer light as the sun dips lower in the sky. What a place to live and work! wk 35 ends 5th Sept.
- Calm weather all week, and noticeably quieter. No better time for exploring the high tops, though there's a hint of autumn if you look carefully. Wk 35 ends 5/9/14
- It's definitely blackberry season, with these 5kg of the beauties picked in just one short session. But do you know the best spots for blackberries in the Glencoe area?! wk 35 ends 5/9/14
- Enjoying the view back to Glencoe from Callart on a sunny summery afternoon. Wk 35 ends 5/9/14
- You can't beat a view with a bit of flowering heather and Scottish mountain! Wk 34 ends 29/8/14.
- Summer seem to dessert us in August, but this week it came back - and most welcome too. The evening light the night before was stunning, but this view isn't too shabby either. Wk 34 ends 29/8/14.
- As hills go, Ben Hiant isn't that big. But as views from hills go, it should be on everyone's tick list. 360 degrees to the Skye Cullin, the small isles, the Outer Hebrides, and Mull. Wk 34 ends 29/8/14
- The most westerly place for a top bomby on the British mainland. It's a fair drive out to Sanna, but on a sunny day it's heaven on earth. Simply gorgeous. Wk 34 ends 29/8/14.
- You can't eat fresher that this. Caught in Loch Leven and straight to the pot. Wk 34 ends 29/8/14.
- 36hrs after running our other van into a stray cow and seeing it towed away, someone, now known as Mr Popular, does this to our Berlingo. Not a good week for motor insurance claims. Wk 32 ends 15/8/14
- Gavin Sandworth calling in during his 1200 mile charity walk - pushing a barrel in a wheelchair. www.icanandiwill.co.uk Wk 32 ends 15/8/14
- Ex-hurricane Bertha travelled south, east and then north, but never really made it to the west coast. The worst we had was a little overnight rain and some moody skies. Wk 32 ends 15/8/14.
- Man's best friend(s) waiting patiently to see what goodies are being brought back for lunch. wk 32 ends 15/8/14
- Monique Hartmann took this photo on Sgorr Nam Fiannaidh during her stay at Clachaig last week. Ever get that feeling that you're being watched? Wk 31 ends 8/8/14.
- Another from Monique Hartmann. A faint rainbow seen over the Lost Valley. Wk 31 ends 8/8/14.
- Not everyone's cup of tea, Cyclocross biking over the pass at Callart, but even if the ride is a little off putting, the view is well worth the effort! Wk 31 ends 8/8/14.
- Dining en plein air as the Frenchies would say has been very popular at clachaig this summer, but beware those Cheeky Chaffinches! Wk 31 ends 8/8/14.
- Heavy thundery downpours caused a bit of havoc on the A82 (and other roads) at the weekend as the sudden torrents destabilised the watercourses. Wk 31 ends 8/8/14.
